About the event
Holes is a captivating new theatre production, inspired by the highly acclaimed book and hit film of the same name. This unique offbeat comedy-drama follows the story of Stanley Yelnats, a young man doomed by his family's history of misfortune and wrongfully accused of a crime. As a consequence, Stanley is sent to a harsh labor camp where he's forced to dig a hole that's five feet wide and five feet deep every day, supposedly to improve his character. However, the camp's authoritarian Warden has ulterior motives. Amidst the challenges of dealing with the Warden's ruthless tactics, her henchmen, and the dangers of venomous rattlesnakes and yellow-spotted lizards, Stanley and his campmates must uncover the truth behind their work. The story unfolds as Stanley forms bonds with the other boys and together, they begin to piece together the real reason behind their grueling task.
Holes, written by Louis Sachar won the 1998 U.S. National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and the 1999 Newbery Medal for the year’s most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Louis also wrote the screenplay for the 2003 film adaptation.
